Do I need to make fire precautions?

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Many people investigate the security and safety aspects of their shipping container before they purchase the structure. This is well advised and helps to create the situation where your container is perfectly suited to the function which it is required to do right from the start.

Also of course, you will have the piece of mind that you have made an informed decision on the structure and have every base covered in this regard.

One question which many people ask is whether or not the containers are fireproof? Obviously no structure is going to be one hundred percent fireproof however containers which are made from steel and marine plywood offer a very high level of resistance to this.

You need to consider the products which you are placing within the structure and carry out a risk assessment of this, as you would with any method of storage.

Make sure that if people are going to be in the structure on a regular basis that there is the proper fire exits and that there is an extinguisher present in a very prominent place. A fire blanket may also be a good idea as safety cannot be compromised, no matter how unlikely it is to be called in to action.

Start planning for Christmas now!

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

As we have previously mentioned, the British summer does not last forever and once the nights start drawing in then for many people, the countdown to Christmas begins.

Due to this, people who conduct special events during the festive period are encouraged to make their arrangements as early as possible to avoid disappointment, whether this is buying that special gift or organising a Christmas party for example.

This can also be the case for more flamboyant festive activities which embody the use of storage containers. Perhaps the most common of these is creating a Santa’s Grotto for children to come and meet the great man himself and to be provided with small gifts as a memento.

This is popular in a wide range of venues and can certainly help generate some much needed cash for the festive period. But obviously these things need planning especially in terms of the design and also the location of the structure.

It is therefore important to start making your plans early and making sure that you not only provide a large amount of children with an experience to remember but you also increase your festive cash flow!

Pass on your knowledge and experience

Monday, July 28th, 2008

As we have seen in many of the articles on this site, the role of storage containers in today’s society is wide and varied.

From traditional storage units to luxury hotels, we have just scratched the surface in terms of all the functions which these perform in a cost effective manner.

Despite this however, many people do not think about storage containers for jobs which they regularly perform. This is where we come in – by spreading the message of the eclectic range of functions that these structures perform we hope that many people will recognise how they can provide answers to some of their storage issues.

The power of the word of mouth cannot be overestimated and therefore if storage containers have helped you the please do tell us and also tell others who would benefit from the same.

Make sure that you give people honest and objective opinions of your storage container experience, so they get their structure just right. Of course we can answer any query which they may have regarding the actual logistics of the container, but in a way you are our most prized asset in that you already have successful experience with the structures and are therefore in an ideal position to pass on your knowledge to others.

Make sure that you have more than one key cut!

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

No matter what your reasoning for storage containers may be, you need to be certain that your property is safe and every precaution is made in this regard.

As a result the vast majority of container structures employ a locking facility which keeps the contents safe from theft or vandalism.

However, it is important that you make certain precautions yourself in terms of any locks which you place on the containers.

The most important thing to remember is to get more than one set of keys cut for the locks. You cannot guarantee that one of the keys may be misplaced or lost at some point and therefore to avoid excess amounts of hassle, it is always comforting to know that there are other keys out there.

Perhaps the best idea is to have three keys cut, one which you will use as the master key, one which you place in a safe place at home, and one additional key which you give to a trustworthy friend or partner.

The last thing which you want is to only have one key and be in the position where you urgently need to access your property but cannot do this due to the key being misplaced or lost.

Safety measures are not an excuse for carelessness

Last week, we brought you the story of a young child who was trapped inside a storage container which was acting as a toy store. Whilst checks should have been carried out on the store before it was locked, the case has brought to light several issues regarding the role of storage containers and children in general.

First of all, do not think that once a storage container has been installed, for whatever the reason, that it cannot be modified or altered to best suit your requirements. For example, windows can be placed within the container which will aid the security of the structure, especially where children are involved.

Obviously this is no substitution for you own vigilance, however you really need to be covering every base when it comes to young children.

Secondly, it is possible to install emergency exits within the structure, in the same manner that these are placed within traditional buildings. This would give the added piece of mind that should anyone become stuck within the structure, everything is in place for their safety and rescue.

Yet no matter how many precautionary measures you make within the structure itself, you must display a high amount of personal organisation in making sure in your own mind that these measures will never be used.

Safety measures should not be an excuse for you to dilute your own awareness of the situation and if you remember this then everyone will enjoy the facility which it offers in a safe environment.
