Shipping containers are huge and versatile. In the 19th century, such units were used as ‘transporters’ to carry goods from one place to another. The 20th century can see more of innovative uses of shipping units. Here are few of the ideas which have already been implemented and which can in the future:

• A shipping cabinet can be made functional in such a unit. The large space and the flexibility will serve the purpose. A set of seating arrangements could also be accommodated. A small mobile kitchen could be one possible use.
• A huge space such as the shipping container can be made into a living quarters. The accommodation could include an air conditioner, refrigerator and dining area.
• An operation center could be made from a shipping unit. Serving as an outsourcing centre, the unit can be built up including computers, wireless networking units, etc. Such an operational unit could monitor things away from the site.
• Shipping units have been useful in times of natural disasters like earthquakes, terror attacks, famines, etc. and have brought hope by rescuing victims.
• A medical research centre could be set up inside a shipping centre. Such a place for clinical research, a team of doctors can fulfill this dream. Huge incubation set ups and septic areas could also be built.
