Some facts about shipping containers

Shipping containers are very useful as they help to transport goods from one location to another. They are large containers and can be made from a variety of different materials. There are many types of shipping containers and they are also designed differently to suit and accommodate different products. They are available in different weights and sizes as well. The length of a shipping container can vary from 10 feet to 40 feet. Their width is usually 8 feet and height varies from anywhere between 8.5 feet to 9.5 feet.

There are three things to be considered before selecting a shipping container. The first thing to be considered is the container’s rating. Rating simply means the maximum weight permitted for the container. The second thing to be considered is the container’s tare weight or tare mass. This implies the empty weight of the container. Finally, payload – that implies the total weight that the container can carry. Usually, you would find stickers on a shipping container that informs you of its tare weight, rating and payload.

A shipping container can also be classified into one of two groups. The first group is the general purpose and dry cargo container. They are the most commonly used containers in industry. They are strong and waterproof. The second group are special cargo containers. They are containers used for transporting different chemicals and also thermal containers that are usually used for transporting goods like fruit, meat etc.
