Refrigerated containers are essentially specialised shipping containers which are widely employed for high volume freight transport of valuable goods that demand specific temperature levels. Precise refrigeration of temperature-controlled cargo plays a huge role in today’s logistics industry.
Refrigerated containers carry integrated refrigeration units. These units usually run on an external power supply either from land based sites and container ships or, in some cases, from quays. After safe transportation (via sea or land/road) is over, the refrigerated containers are usually powered from generators. While they are in transit, some containers are water cooled.
Another common method of container refrigeration is usage of CO2. Refrigerated containers which make use of CO2 cooling systems can keep temperature sensitive cargo frozen solid for up to a month.
